Event Description

Generative Constraints is an interdisciplinary conference that intends to interrogate the politics, poetics and performativity of limitation and production. Organised by postgraduate practice-based researchers from Royal Holloway University of London, the aim of this conference is to foreground practice as a means of exploration and creative criticality.

The conference comprises a day and evening programme of papers, performances, readings, workshops, and installations. The evening programme will feature screenings, readings, performances, and an artist's talk. (Tickets for the evening event are available separately; the full-price ticket includes access to the full conference programme.) As part of the RHUL Practice-Based Research PhD Programme, a brand new Publication and a Pop-Up Gallery will be launched at the conference – please see our website for further details.

We are delighted to announce our keynote presenters: Amanda Beech (who is kindly sponsored by Kingston University’s practice research unit), Tim Etchells, Matthew Goulish & Lin Hixson (Every House Has A Door), and Jane Rendell.

For further information see: generativeconstraints.tumblr.com. Find us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/rhulpracticebasedphd) and Twitter (@PracticeRHUL).

The project is funded by the Faculty Initiative Fund and the Departments of English, Drama & Theatre, Media Arts, and Music at Royal Holloway University of London. The conference is being organised with generous help and support from practice research unit at Kingston University.
