Hey Simon, This looks pretty cool. Have you looked at the extensive literature in philosophical aesthetics on musical improvisation? If not, you might want to look up work by Lee Brown, Alessandro Bertinetto, Andrew Kania, Philip Alperson, and Susan Feagin for starters.
Oh, and of course, Aili Bresnahan and others on dance improvisation...
