Philosophy in Experiment

Philosophy in Experiment

Philosophy in experiment is a group of researchers and actors of authorial theatre whose main aim is the cultivation of philosophical thinking, developed together with the cultivation of self-perception and expression. We are interested in the space of experiment, an open field, where experience returns to its foundation which consists of experimentation or trying out (experiri). Experience of this sort includes in itself the state of being moved by sense which does not give itself to consciousness immediately and therefore is often perceived, mistakingly, as unphilosophical or unreal.
Philosophical terms take, in the open field of experiment, the journey from an impulse to the full expression again. Non-representational theatre practice, which is for instance the (Inter)acting with the inner partner or partners ( free stage acting) of Ivan Vyskocil who inspires us, enables the emergence of crucial philosophical principles. That is why we also develop an open dramatic play and authorial theatre. The conscious work with voice or dance and contact improvisation also inspires us.

No less important for our investigations are philosophical inspirations treating directly the intertwining between the theatre and reflection or bringing by their force the experience and experimentation into the motion. Among the philosophers who are relevant to this issue belong Nietzsche, Husserl, Bergson, Merleau-Ponty, Rombach, Artaud, Deleuze, Guattari, Bataille, Badiou, Derrida, Foucault, Kristeva, Austin, and many others.
We try to provide access to our theatre experimentation and philosophical research for the (specialized) public by means of workshops, conferences, performances, and philosophical texts. In this way, we are searching for the possibilities of the topology of the subjectivity, ontology of multiplicity, phenopractice, phenomenology of improvisation, philosophy of sensuality and corporeality, exploration of creative experience, and authorial acting.

Project Philosophy in experiment is being realized currently with the support of the Academy os Science of the Czech Republic as a project of international cooperation (M300091203). In the frame of this project Philosophy in experiment cooperates with the centre Mbody. Research in media, somatics, dance and philosophy (Freiburg, Germany). We will appreciate any cooperation with groups of relevant interest.
