Event Description

Distilling movement and presence

Ana Mira

Morning class, at Independent Dance, London

Mon – Fri,19-23 May 2014, 10am-12pm

To bring stillness into movement and presence as a focus of research in dance practice. Not by suspending movement, but immersing movement into the distilling atmosphere of our presence.

Excavating those moments when we merge with the whole of us, in such awareness of every small shift of weight, lightness, shadow, light, density, volatility, heat, dust.

Within proposed movement meditations, there will be space for individual awakening of the senses and movement research, collectively-in-the-studio. Those movement meditations, more or less sequential, are, though, continuous. Not by the flow of motion but by a sensorial search on the continuous subterraneous movement that sustains the dance…distilling (of presence of the body). The movement meditations have been developed through studies in experiential anatomy and physiology as approached in somatic practices such as release, body-mind centering (Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen), material for the spine (Steve Paxton), fasciatherapy (Danis Bois), chi kung (Master Lam Kam Chuen).

In our journey through the movement meditations proposed here, along with the selected words that may resonate within them and our deep wide listening to the senses, we aim to recall the permanence of corporeal presence in dance.
