The struggle of the twenty first century is the struggle to be human.
Dasein enacts the inevitable loneliness of immortality and the suffering
that knowledge of mortality infers. Even the identity of the gods is
inscribed by the attention of the living and without the gods. Our Divine
audience, tragedy and death become reduced to accident.
Dasein expresses the envy of the gods for mortality and unknowable death;
the desire of mortals to feel at-home in the world of suffering and at home
in our skins. Gods and mortals alike burn with the impossible desire to
escape our selves, to become at home, neither in the world nor in Hades but,
in another human soul.
