ContinueHello! My name is Matthew Roberts. I am the Research Librarian for Comparative Literature, Critical Theory, English, and European Studies at the University of California, Irvine. In this role, I also serve as the Subject Specialist for the Critical Theory Archive, an archival collection that contains the papers of Jacques Derrida, Paul de Man, and many others prominent theorists and literary critics,
My interest in Performance Philosophy is varied. I completed my BA in Philosophy at DePaul University During this time, I developed a passion for Greek tragedy and its reception in German thought (e.g. Hoelderlin, Nietzsche, and Heidegger). This work ultimately contributed to my interest in more contemporary works of European theater, particularly those that break from naturalism. I completed my doctorate at Emory University, producing a dissertation on the work of Harold Pinter, Howard Barker, and Sarah Kane.
Though I am a professional librarian, I continue to conduct research in the fields of theater studies, performance studies, and continental philosophy. My scholarship appears in journals such as Modern Drama and Comparative Drama.
I look forward to establishing relationships with members of this community, and would welcome any opportunities to contribute to existing projects, discussions, or scholarly pursuits.
